The campaign to ban Alistair Darling from British pubs has spread to Brussels, with one hostelry in the vicinity of the European Parliament advertising that the Chancellor of the Exchequer is not welcome within its confines. Darling has come under fire in the UK for increasing for excise duty on alcohol in his last budget. The annual budget saw an increase in the price of beer by 4p a pint, with wine going up by 14p a bottle, spirits 55p a bottle and cider up 3p a litre. He also suggested that alcohol duty will rise by 29% above inflation over the next four years. |

Only fifteen percent of European companies surveyed said they were not considering moving outside the EU Emission Trading Scheme area according to the head of one of Europe’s leading market analysis organizations. In a curious, apparent juxtaposition, Per-Otto Wold, CEO of Point energy commented that Five per cent said that European Union Allowances or Certified Emissions Reductions certificates were of no importance. |
