Legend has it that the ancient Greek goddess of love Aphrodite was born somewhere near the coast of Cyprus and ever since Cyprus has enjoyed the reputation of being the island of love. You’d be forgiven for finding such an epitaph rather ironic given that Cyprus is also a byword for division, and certainly not much love exists between its two major constituent peoples; Greek and Turkish Cypriots.
